The Skin

Installation  |  Machine Learning Motion Capture  |  Game Design

An interactive installation where an avatar, composed of wooden puppet-like hands and head, mirrors the audience’s movements, gradually shedding its layered "skins"—3D scans of real people—raising questions about identity, social influence, and existence beyond external perceptions.
The Skin is an interactive installation that explores identity and the role of social perception in defining existence.

On-screen, an avatar with only a wooden puppet-like head and hands mirrors the audience’s movements using the Mediapipe plugin. Draped over its invisible body are cloth-simulated skins—3D photogrammetry scans of the artist’s friends. As the audience moves, these skins gradually fall away, revealing an emptiness beneath. This process invites viewers to question: Are we merely reflections of others? Are we constructed from external influences? Do we exist without social feedback? Through this interactive shedding, The Skin challenges the boundaries between self and societal composition.
